We've finally released new material. All the children of the shipwrecked are now listenable at Myspace and Mikseri.net. New Myspace-layout is already done, our homepage will be renewed in no time also. Enjoy the new backstabbing.
Our newest children have left home and headed for Miitri Aaltonen to be mastered. We are working with our new website and are planning on releasing the new songs and new website during the next week. Stay tuned.
Thanks to everybody who voted for us in Finnish Metal Awards 2010. We were on the fifth place on this Best UG Act -list including many very talented and great finnish bands. Congrats to Ghoul Patrol who won the Best Underground Act -category.
The final placements were:
1. Ghoul Patrol 2. Embreach 3. Unborn Generation 4. The Zombi 5. Backstabbing Bastard 6. Hypnotic 7. Rage My Bitch 8. Disease of the Nation 9. Medicated 10. Beyond the Dream
Few shows has been booked. Be sure to make your way in Joensuu or Helsinki this month, and later on May in Oulu or Iisalmi. Check the dates from our GIGS-section.. Be there or...just be there, okay?
We are proud to say we've battled our way out from the studio we locked ourselves in. Today we recorded the vocals, or should I say Tuomo recorded, Mika sung and Antti and I (Jukka) watched some stupid pictures online and made ourselves look as stupid as we are. Mika wrote some of his thoughts to the Hitman's Diary, so check it out. I can say I'm curious as hell to hear how the final songs will sound. Raw edits with vocals sounded so good that I'm having high hopes for this one. Atleast it feels like we've achieved our goal and exceled ourselves.
We've finally began recording our newest material, and Toni is recording his drum parts as I speak. Check out the Hitman's Diary to stay tuned what's happening.
It's so damn cold outside it's better to stay inside. So we decided to stay inside the recording studio and record couple of new songs we've been playing in our gigs already. Since we are all a bunch of lazy bastards, I can't promise any date when the new material will be out, but we are really working on it and trying to get this thing going big time. I think it's more than safe to say that it's going to be legen.... wait for it.... dary.
We at the band have gone through a big change, and we are proud to announce, that Toni, as a drummer, and Jaakko, as a guitarist are the newest members of our group. They have done good job as our session guitarist and session drummer for a while and now it is time to announce they as a final real members to our team. We all welcome Jaakko and Toni to our family and wish them a long patience with us. We wish to thank our guitarist Jarkko, who decided to stay a while with deers and polar bears in Iceland and leave the band duty after all, we wish you all the best. It has been a blast with you, see you soon when you return from the North.
Finnish Metal Awards 2009 voting has started. It is time to choose the best metal acts in Finnish metal scene. Among the other important categories, there's voting category for the best underground act, and you know who you can vote for, don't you? ;) Organization responsible for the voting will give prizes (ie. albums and tickets to Finnish Metal Expo in February 2010) to random voters so it's worth your while.
So the voting happens here.
Backstabbing Bastard will perform live with three other bands in Tampere (YO-Talo) 16th of December in Rock Night With A Blast. You can buy tickets from Tiketti.fi (5e) and straight from the gates (8e).

Humalan kämmenellä -09 has come to its end. After three gigs around the very southern and south-eastern Finland we are pleased to announce that everything went well (and even technical difficulties in our second gig can't bring this feeling down.). We were doing gigs with our great session musicians Jaakko Kauppinen (guitar) and Toni Ronkainen (drums) and they really did their job well. After three days of metal hammering in various locations, lots of bad humour and sore abs because of laughing so hard everyone were pleased and tired as hell. More stories to come in our Hitman's diaries.
The Bastards start co-working with booking agency Popgee Oy. So from now on, please contact straight to Timo Kaunisvesi / Popgee to for gigs. Contact information can be found from lower left corner.
Some new reviews also, finnish internet magazine Lammas Zine reviewed Of Thieves and Beggars, and seemed to like it. If you know your finnish language, you can read the review here.
As you might already know, Backstabbing Bastard played at the finnish finals of the Wacken Metal Battle in Qstock, Oulu. With even the mysterious spiderman as our guitarist and our bassist almost passing out we fought proud, but got still skullfucked by Napoleon himself. So congratulations to Napoleon Skullfukk who'll be heading to Wacken Open Air '09.
Hola chicas y chicos. One of the leading finnish music medias, Soundi Magazine, reviewed our newest demo "Of Thieves and Beggars". Since the review got us blushing, we decided to share that with you also. You can read the translation here. The original finnish review can be read from Soundi's number 6-7/2009.
"Backstabbing Bastard's demo couple of years ago presented a slightly faceless and boring amateur thrash metal band. There's happened a lot between the last and the newest demo. BB is everything else than faceless or boring. The band's playing is flexible and the songs are full of attitude. BB is very melodic, and sometimes melodies are even extremely light, which just brings more contrast to the songs. The metal music, that BB plays is very versatile and the band has succeeded in creating a distinctive style. Backstabbing Bastard's music has a lot of details, that keeps music interesting for a long time." Review by Marko Säynekoski.
We participated in Wacken Metal Battle and found ourselves in the finnish semifinals in Oulu last weekend with three other bands. We were the other band to win the semifinal, so Backstabbing Bastard will be performing at Qstock 2009, Oulu. There's plenty to see there, so if there's space in your calendar, make sure to come and check us. (and all the others, incl. Pain (SWE), Anthrax (USA) and the list goes on and on.. )
A brand new review of "Of Thieves and Beggars" can be found at HardCoreSounds which is a Finnish site focusing on metal & hardcore music. Check the review.
We were lucky enough to fill some new gig updates to our schedule. Now it's possible for our finnish friends in Joensuu and in Helsinki to enjoy seeing our ugly faces sweating on stage. Luckily we are not male strippers so the main purpose isn't to entertain in that way.
We'll be playing finally live at Joensuu again, 08.05.09 at Kellari, with Amoral. So everybody who's able, remember not to make other plans for that weekend, 'cause it's gonna be a blast. To Helsinki we will come at 03.09.09 and we will be performing at Henry's Pub. This is the first gig at Helsinki with current line-up so make sure you remember that Thursday to come.
Please visit at http://www.radiorock.fi/biisiarvostelut/arvostele.asp?id=738 and rate our song The Modern way to Sin. It can be done by clicking the numbers from 1 to 10 which are under the opening player.
Welcome to our all new website. As part of the renewal content will be served in English. Site content is presently incomplete but keeps growing softly. Give us a shout and tell us what you think.
BB onnittelee skaban voittajia.
Backstabbing Bastard selvisi Sweden Rock Festivalin järjestämän Nordic Challenge -skaban finaaliin.
Loppujen lopuksi yhtye oli Suomen bändien listalla viidentenä. Finaaliäänestys alkoi perjantaina 9.1. ja jatkuu kaksi viikkoa. Äänestää voit vaikka joka päivä.
Äänestys tapahtuu osoitteessa www.myspace.com/swedenrockfestival
Backstabbing Bastard on mukana Metal Campin skabassa. Kilpailun voittaja voittaa siis keikkapaikan Metal Camp -festareille Sloveniaan. Voit käydä äänestämässä BB:tä täällä.
Muistathan myös jo aikaisemmin mainostetun Sweden Rock Festival -skaban, jonka Suomen listan neljäntenä BB tällä hetkellä on. BB:tä voit käydä äänestämässä kerran päivässä (1krt per account & IP-osoite) täällä.
HYVÄÄ JOULUA KAIKILLE TOIVOTTAA BB:N PORUKKA.
Uusi promomme on saanut hyvän vastaanoton. Levyn avausbiisi The Modern Way to Sin valittiin Mikseri.netin viikon biisivalinnaksi (viikko 46).
Rosvot ja kerjäläiset on nyt päästetty Mikseriin ja MySpaceen. Olkaa hyvä ja nauttikaa.
Äänitykset ovat nyt purkissa ja jälkituotanto alkakoon. Uutta materiaalia odotellessa voit katsella vaikkapa valokuvia BB:n studiosessioinneista Valokuvat-osiossa.

Jaossa olisi kaiken kansan nähtäville kaksi kokonaista biisiä, ensimmäisen demon lehmänkelloralli Destined to Fail ja uusi humppa The Modern Way to Sin.
Backstabbing Bastard - Destined to Fail Backstabbing Bastard - The Modern Way to Sin
Backstabbing Bastard kiittää sydämellisesti kaikkia Ilosaarirockin Metelli-klubilla keikasta nauttineita, ja yhtälailla toki myös järjestäjiä. Puitteet olivat mahtavat ja bändillä oli hauskaa.

...joten onneksi soitamme klo 21.30 alkaen Joensuun jäähallissa METELLI-klubin avaajana ja yleisönlämmittäjänä. Siispä muista tuoda itsesi ja kaikki kaverisi paikalle todistamaan joensuulaista selkäänpuukotusta.
Uuden demon luomisprosessi on käynnistetty. Parhaillaan viisujen selkärankoja ruoditaan kasaan, ja ehkä hieman lihaakin saadaan hakattua luiden väliin viikonlopun aikana. Demo valmistunee kesäkuun alkuun mennessä. Jaksakaa vielä muutama viikko...
Nyt sinulla on mahdollisuus äänestää BB voittoon Rockbirds-kilpailussa.. Ohjeet äänestykseen löytyvät osoitteesta http://www.oifm.fi
Yhtyeen kesätyöt alkavat toukokuun puolessa välissä, jolloin siirrymme vatkaamaan joensuulaiseen äänieristekoppiin. Ry(y)pyttelyn ja vaahtoamisen tuoksinassa leivomme talteen palasen uutta äkäistä lättyä, jota promoksikin kutsutaan. Uudella reseptillä luodut kolme teosta edustaa raaempaa, mutta kypsempää Backstabbing Bastardia. Alkupalat onkin tarjoiltu jo muutamalla edellisellä keikalla...
Heinäkuussa kannattaa tulla puukkohippasille Joensuuhun ja Ilosaarirockiin. Backstabbing Bastard esiintyy lauantaina 12.7. Metelli-klubilla hiostaen Mokomaa, Rotten Soundia ja Metsatöllia. Sisäänpääsymaksu klubille on 10 euroa.
BB:n esittely Ilosaarirockin sivuilla
Tänään heräsi karvainen epäilys, että Rockbirds-kilpailun tuomaristo oli käynyt sienimetsällä. Yllättävästi pääsimme jatkoon ja tätä myötä studioon ja radiosoittoon. Kiitos kaikille juomareille.
BB osallistuu Rockbirds-kisaan, jonka bändikatselmus pidetään tulevana lauantaina (29.3.) Screamissa Joensuun ydinkeskustassa. Vaikka kilpailun voittajaa ei selvitetä huutoäänestyksellä, toivomme, että paikalle saapuu mahdollisimman moni kunnioittamaan yhtyeen häpeällistä kahlaamista esiintymispaikkojen pohjamudissa. Yhtyeen musiikista pitävät saavat mannaa korvilleen yhden ennenkuulemattoman kappaleen muodossa.
Tapahtuma alkaa kello 15 ja mikäli aikataulussa pysytään, Backstabbing Bastard aloittaa klo 16.45.
Ensimmäinen festivaaliesiintyminen on varmistunut. Backstabbing Bastard tullaan näkemään lauantaina 14.6. Jyväskylän Sataman Yössä noin klo 14-15.
Nyt kun rättikauppa on muutoinkin kuumimmillaan Suomessa, on hyvä hetki pistäytyä pällistelemään alkavan kevätkauden kuuminta t-paitamuotia Oheistuotteet-sivulta.
Uimaharju on nyt virallisesti valloitettu. Kiitos kaikille, jotka olivat paikalla tapahtumaa todistamassa. Jos jollakin sattuu olemaan hyviä tahi huonoja kuvia meistä, niin otamme niitä mielellämme vastaan sähköpostiimme. Jatkamme maailman valloitusta seuraavaksi jossakin, minne kohtalo meidät ohjaa.
BB kävi valloittamassa lasten mielet Kylmäojan koululla viime perjantaina. Porukkaa oli kuin pipoa, kuten kuvista näkyy...?
TPNE:n ensimmäinen arvio on julkaistu Rockhard.de-sivustolla (saksaksi).
Äänitysten aikana paksuksi pamahtaneeseen (siis entistä paksummaksi) bändiin oli odotettavissa perheenlisäystä, koska koskettimet eivät painu itsestään pohjaan kuin elokuvissa.
Ilolla ilmoitamme, että uusi kiippari-Kallemme on Jukka Turunen. Lisäyksen myötä bändi on asettunut sosiaalisessa vuorovaikutuksessa uudelle, entistä puisevammalle, tasolle.
BB lähtee lokakuussa puukottelemaan (yleisön korvia) Helsingin ja Tampereen suuntaan. Tsekkaapa keikat.
Kuten varmaan moni ehti huomaamaan, entinen vieraskirjamme koitti sitkeästi muuttaa itseään linkkisivustoksi. Tänään kyseinen ryökäle lähti ns. naisen sukupuolielimeen ja tilalle vaihdettiin turvallisempi vaihtoehto.
BB:n promokuvat otettiin viime viikolla P-K:n AMK:n studiotiloissa. Saimme kuvat lisättyä sivuille vasta nyt, koska kukaan ei tullut avaamaan köysiä. Kiitokset kuitenkin kuvaajalle.
Video viime viikonlopun tapahtumista on vihdoin saatavilla juutuubissa. Aikaisempaa rumpu-/lauluvideota on myös lyhennetty 1,5 minuuttia raskaan painostuksen johdosta.
Kitaroiden ja bassojen äänitykset Rummut ja vokaalit (lyhennetty)
Demoa on nyt saatu vietyä raskaan viikonlopun verran eteenpäin. Emme kuitenkaan saaneet demoa valmiiksi, koska sille varattu viikonloppu oli kertakaikkiaan riittämätön. Työstäminen jatkuu kuitenkin mahdollisimman pian ja valmis materiaali ilmestyy sivuille heti valmistuttuaan. Lisäsimme iloa silmillenne uuden demon nauhoituksista.
Ihan kohtsillään alkaa taas tapahtua, sillä BB vetäytyy päiväkirjahuoneesta Liperiin häiritsemään maaseudun rauhaa. Viikonlopun tarkoituksena on onnistuneen rusketuksen saaminen makkaroihin (ja lisäksi äänittää kitara-, basso- ja kosketinraidat).
Paikalle tulee myös ystävä JVC, joten mahdollisuus kuvalliseen elämykseen viikonlopun tapahtumista on olemassa.
Aloitimme uuden demon (The premonition: new era) äänitykset maaliskuun ensimmäisenä viikonloppuna. Saavutimme tavoitteemme eli saimme rummut ja laulut purkitettua. Tätä voimme pitää erinomaisen suorituksena neljän päivän massiivisen Guitar Heron ja kebabin syönnin ohella.
Etsimme parhaillaan sopivaa ajankohtaa kitaroiden ja bassojen äänitykseen. Tulevalla äänituotoksella kuuntelijat voivat mahdollisesti päästä nauttimaan myös koskettimien sykähdyttävästä soinnista.
Mikäli ylimääräisiä vastoinkäymisiä tai hermoromahduksia ei tapahdu, demo on kuultavissa huhtikuussa (vuodesta emme puhu mitään).

So, today was a long day. It took about 10 hours, but now we can be happy to say, that the vocals are done. It means we are ready to start mixing the stuff next week. And if we're lucky, the outcome will be ready before the end of Feb.
what do they sound like then? Well, there are more clean vocals than before. It means that we tried to avoid the "too simple structure (crowled verse & clean chorus)". Now all parts of the songs have both within. There are also more doubles and supporting vocals. We could say vocals are "richer" than ever before in our songs. It's interesting to see what kind of reactions these new songs will make on people, cause the arranging decisions are...different.
Altogether, every aspect of BB's music has grown to a new level. The line-up changes and development in composing and arrranging has shaped our path, that hopefully lead us to right places. Not left. That's all for now. My head is empty. Over and loud.
We've just learned the whole three chords and decided we don't need no more. Second day of studio has begun early, too early if you ask me, and we are currently recording basses. If something puts a smile on a man's face it is when you see the songs building up and getting fatter and fatter - just like us.
After basses are done I think we'll start with the guitars and if everything goes as planned, all the guitar tracks will be recorded by this evening. Well there's always something that doesn't go as planned in our studio sessions, but now we, the crew so wry, are prepared for the delays.
In the lunch break I composed a little piece to be played in the end of our other song, called "Gates of Treason". It turned out pretty nice might I say, so this day has been a success for me atleast. I think all the other guys are pleased as well, since everything is going very well. Jaakko, Tuomo and Mika adjusted the guitar sounds and damn they sound great right now.
And hey, there's plenty of coffee.
We started recordings we've planned for like three months already. As usual our lack in planning skills was the main reason for the delay, but in the same time we had plenty of time to rehearse our material and give the songs enough time to develop. As im writing this, Toni is recording his drumparts for our new song called "Shipwrecked". All the others are hanging out here in the monitoring room.
I guess Mika and Tuomo, who also are recording and editing this one came here as early as 9am. I however started my day pretty easily, drinking excess amount of coffee, playing Modern Warfare 2 and came here finally at 2pm, so everything was in order already when I came here with Antti. As Toni is recording his drum parts, I've improved my synthesizer parts and planned some new stuff to be added in our songs.
I think that's all for today, since Jaakko came next to me eating his delicious looking hot dogs and I'm one hungry hippo.
So, now the gig ? Dante's Higlight has been done. There are few little things I wanna point out: First of all, the staffmixer was a total asshole with no interest or passion of anykind towards the job he was doing. Not the best kinda attitude in customer service.. But as we are a gang of good-old-jolly-fellas, we didn't mind about that when we entered the stage. But a word of advice for those who attend to play there: get your own mixer-man. In the worst-case-scenario that fucker's gonna ruin your night. That's all about that.
What comes to our show, is that we didn't have the best kind of kick-start with our first song. Our replacement guitarist Jaakko's guitar fell down first, and the other one couldn't get any sound out of his amplifier (the reason was the cord plugged into wrong amp.). Those were the problems we had in Dante's.
Next day after getting our gear into our van, we headed towards Kotka. The distance swell almost to double-size, cause we weren't sure enough about our route. See good in bad was our motto obviously, cause we had more time to laugh to stupid jokes and drawings. The mood couldn't have been better. Well, when we got to bar called Backroom, where the show would be, they said that for some reason there hadn't occupied their housemixer for the night. Someone was coming though (and that someone turned out to be a virgin in mixing a gig.. He did good nevertheless.). If we had little problems in Dante's, the problems were major in Backroom. The problems were technical in both places, not among the band or playing. The gig turned out to be one of the best yet, though we had no bassist, Jaakko's guitar's one string snapped, all 3 mics dimmed out temporarily, our replecement drummer Toni's pedals broke, though he got them fixed during a short break and Antti's guitar amp shut down suddenly during the penultimate song and he couldn't get it on. despiting these misfortunes we played our gig as we had planned, and it seemed that all those accidents made us feel stronger until the end.. What a feeling I must say.. Enough reasons for us to celebrate one of the most bizarre gigs ever. The place was awesome as well as the staff.. We will be back, you know.? The hangover equaled the amount of beers I drank that night. So I volunteered to drive from Lappeenranta to Joensuu next night after our gig in Lucky Monkeys.
The last gig in Lucky Monkeys went very smoothly without problems, and it crowned our 3-gig-tour. What an experiment. With our pleased mind we were ready to head back to Joensuu, to get some sleep and rest from all that laughing. Big thanks goes to our replacements Jaakko and Toni, who will be playing rest of our shows this year. You rock.. Also we'd like to thank bars Back Room and Lucky Monkeys for being kind to and taking very good care of us. Peace and respect.
We've been enjoying of the sun, writing some new material I guess and waiting for the next month's gig at Helsinki. At the meantime we also got our new promotional pics taken by Mikko Savinainen at various locations. We are very happy with the new pics and I think soon (or atleast sooner or later, let's not promise too much), after slight editing, we will upload the new promotional material to our website also. There's been some big plans about new graphic layouts and stuff like that, so just you wait.
-Jukka
The header says it all but can't be translated into english smoothly. After all, it says something about cold beer and sun, and that's what we had at Qstock last weekend. We were participating in the finnish finals of Wacken Metal Battle. Well as you might already know from our news section, we didn't win this one, but had a really good time in Oulu.
Our trip started smoothly as usual (so after all everything were planned, our plans got fucked up and we were late again). We wanted to see Pain at Qstock but missed it badly, and ended up listening to Pain from somewhere the festival gates. Sweating like six little pigs after the exhausting car trip in a car without air condition we decided to drink some beers and just chill out.
Well saturday was warm as well and after few hours of sleep it was best just to lay down on the grass near our tents and enjoy the sun, because our gig was not until 2pm... And as usual, the things didn't go as we planned, and we had to walk to the festival area. It wasn't that big of a deal, but somehow in that very hot summer day we who had a little hangover didn't like that idea at all. Well after a good 4-5 kilometres of walking we were at the festival area, a good hour before our gig.
Well, it was something like half an hour to our gig, and it turned out that my keyboard stand was missing from the backstage. I got some extra heartbeats there and sweated even more (if that can be possible in that direct sunlight). Well the stand was in our tour bus so after all nothing so serious and we could just concentrate to the gig.
The gig was even hotter than the hot weather outside, and I'm not talking about our performance. The stage was so hot, that our bassist was about to pass out in the middle of our set, and I myself felt "a bit" tired after all that headbanging in that sauna. After the gig we all waited for the Wacken Metal Battle results and then headed for various gig Qstock had to offer...
Oulu was treating us nice as always, and I think I could write for a good two pages of this trip, but I think that's all for now.. :)
A new report about 1 hour after we got back home from Oulu. It's a new record.
So, we were at Oulu playing some "rock the metaaaaal" at Hevimesta yesterday evening. We left to Oulu yesterday at about 12am with Sickda, by two sedan cars, pulling a huge rear cart containing all our stuff behind us. I was however travelling with Sickda to Oulu, so I have no idea what the other BB's been doing while driving. Well, I think some of us were drinking beer because the happy grin on their faces during the tobacco breaks. We at the Sickda-mobile did pretty much the same thing...
Well after all, there's not much to say about the trip to Oulu, same old, same old. Hevimesta is already a familiar place to us, so we just carried all our stuff inside and pretty much started the soundcheck immediatly. We finished our soundcheck 15 minutes before 9pm (It is forbidden by law in Finland to sell alcohol after 9pm) so we hurried to the nearest shop, bought 70 cans of beer, headed to our hotel and just relaxed, drank some beer and talked about music. Surprisingly...
After Sickda did their job, it was our time to conquer the stage. I think we did a pretty good job, the gig went well. The audience was having fun also, or atleast they're pretty good actors if not. Or they were just drunk. It was by the way the first gig where Antti and I had mics also. So now instead of one good singer there's also two not so good singers trying hard (or dying trying). We had changed our setlist a bit and played some new songs too. The other one is called Gates of Treason, and the other one is called "Sindylaupperi" - The working title is a bow to the 80's singer Cyndi Lauper, but that's a whole different story. And a too long one.
And, well as always, the evening went on... and on... and on.
Coming back from Oulu was also the same old. But luckily, there was something special about this rainy day. When we stopped at Vaala to take in fuel, I found the most amazing thing from this little gas station in this little town. All the episodes of the 80's series "Police Squad", just 8 euros. And on that bombshell it's great to end this report. It's Frank Drebin's turn now.
We have been spending our summer vacation in hot weather, some of us at other works and some of us have just chilled. But that's about to change. Luckily Soundi reviewed our newest demo (and gave us pretty engouraging words.) and now it is time to head to the gigs. First of all we are playing at Oulu, at our beloved venue. We will be playing in the same venue, where we played when we lost our keys to our tour bus. And what's more hilarious, we are sleeping in the very same hotel and rooms where Antti lost his pants. So we are pretty much waiting for that gig experience. I bet it's gonna be alright. And by the way, it'll be my very first gig as a co-singer (I (and Antti too.) will be singing backing vocals I think.).
After Oulu-gig we will head home for Ilosaarirock, and just drink and party-party for the whole weekend, until we'll head back to Oulu, again, to perform at Qstock Festival, where we have a change to win a gig to Wacken Open Air. So if you want to see some rocking, make sure to be present at Qstock, I would just bet it's gonna be really something. So that's pretty much the plan of Backstabbing Bastard for this summer. Oh and something new interesting info also, we've been making some new kick ass songs and I'm pretty sure you can hear at least one or two at Oulu ;)
As you might already know, we were doing a gig in our hometown Joensuu about a week ago with Amoral. It was easy for us 'cause no excessive sweating were needed when going to the venue (Kellari). I started my day working for like 8 hours before driving to our rehearsal place but luckily I'm the keyboardist so there's not much to carry for me ;) We packed our things and headed straight to this local market which had beer for sale. So that's like the holy grail for us in the hot summer day...
After about 10 kilometres of driving we arrived to the venue and as always, everything was pretty much just waiting. As Amoral was the main entertainer that night they made the soundchecks first so we the bastards headed to the sunlight, to enjoy the summer and those cheap Velkopopovicky Kozels we bought.
As always, service at Kellari was splendid. There's a proper good quality restaurant there also, so they offered us delicious food and we got our tummies full. "It was nice", to quote "The Fast Show".
Finally we got our soundcheck done and it was just waiting and talking with friends after that until the gig. Hours passed in nice bar atmosphere and everyone were pretty relaxed. And that's how the gig sounded as well. Relaxed. Sometimes maybe a bit too relaxed... The audience was great, and I'm not just saying it. Even though the number of people wasn't stunning, they made some noise and seemed to like the show. I myself decided to concentrate on headbanging on the stage (and of course playing when needed ;) and suffered from neck pain for like two days after the gig...
Amoral were about to start so we moved our instruments away from the stage and let the Amoral do their job. And damn, they did it well. Since our duty was over, it was more or less party-party for the three of us, Antti, Jarkko and me. The others had to get up early so they missed all the fun this time.
It was early morning for every one of us. Luckily we got a different tour "bus" for this gig, because freezing in that old Ford didn't really sound too good for us anymore. It took about 7 hours to get to Oulu (I have to admit, being a friend of good food we just had to go to this kebab-place in Kajaani where we ate already when we were doing the gig in Kajaani the last friday). Jarkko however took the train from Espoo again, though I think this time he wasn't placed to child carriage of that train for some reason.
After the usual stuff (logging in to a hotel, soundchecks and couple of beers) the gig took off well. Personally I was really enjoying myself there and even we didn't have so much audience I think the gig went pretty well. I was headbanging my neck to pieces and so was some dude from Oulu who decided to take the moshpit to the stage and rushed to bang his head among us. I think everyone of us and some of the audience as well were pleased to the performance and everybody had a really good feeling.
Because of our strict timetable we were planning to get our stuff to the tour van immediatly after the gig. It turned out to be pretty impossible, since somehow the keys to our Mercedes Benz were lost. That was a turning point to our more or less great journey to Oulu. We tried to search for those keys everywhere but were in bad luck. That was the main reason we decided to drink some beer and leave to our hotel and look for our keys there. No luck. We slept for couple of hours and started running things to get some new keys for our car. We got a new key from locksmith, but our curse kept on going strong. The new key didn't work at all. We walked back to the locksmith and got a different kind of key. It didn't work either. We had to break in to our van through the skylight window and open the side doors that way so we could try if the keys would start our car. No luck there either. This was the point where the despair started. We were freezing our asses off in the center of Oulu with no working car, no hotel rooms and pretty much low on cash also. I have to say it was one of the most hilarious (and in same time one of the most depressing) moments of my life, when I was changing clothes in our van just to wear everything I had with me, preparing myself not to freeze outside. It was inevitable we had to spend the night in Oulu waiting for the spare key to get to Oulu from the owner of the car that was sent to us by express mail.
After the real low-point of our trip we were pretty sure things couldn't get any worse. We even got chance to sleep in our same hotel rooms for the night, so we thought our luck was turning. Oh how wrong we were. We went to our hotel rooms and decided to hit the hay early right after the sauna because of the stressful day. The night went well but in the morning our journey took a turn for the worse. It was pretty much awful, unbelievable, depressing, odd and just hilarious in the same time. When Antti woke up, he found out that his pants were gone. Yes you read right. His pants were missing. He started to look for his pants and when checking out the shower room he found out something even more odd and hilarious. There was a pillow on the floor of the shower room. And yes, you read right this time too. Now we were in the situation where Antti had no pants and his wallet and all keys were gone because they were in a pocket of his pants and we all were astonished why there was a pillow in our shower, because there certainly were no pillows in shower room when we went to bed.
Antti's pants were nowhere to be found, and there were no logical explanation for the pillow in our shower and where had Antti's pants gone. We thought every possible scenario through from some drunk guy walking into our hotel room complex to sleep in our shower and robbing Antti's pants, to some of us sleepwalking and throwing Antti's pants outside and finally to something straight out the Lost-series (There were four rooms in that complex, we had all three rooms, so we were thinking if there's someone behind the fourth door, we even laughed to doorbell-looking buttons in the wall of one of rooms. We pressed it and no, nothing Lost-stuff happened.)
After the lost keys and pants we found out that the spare key sent from Joensuu really worked and we could start our trip back to Joensuu, finally. I think everyone of us were thinking of home at that point. It had been a journey filled with adversities, but during the trip back home I found myself thinking the positive. There's no way we ever could forget this trip even though some misfortunes would be better forgotten.
After almost seven hours of screaming, jumping, running and pooping in pants, I finally got to Kajaani. Yeah - I travelled by train and got my seat from childrens carriage. I was a brave boy and managed not to poop my pants (I haven't been so brave always). While I struggled with excessive heat during my trip, other guys frozed their asses off in the "tour" bus from Joensuu to Kajaani.
Eventually we arrived to Balls. We made pretty thorough but nerve-breaking soundcheck. We had major problems with squealing guitars and buzzing bass sound. The situation was covered by booze, of course. After the check it was to time fill up our gaping holes (= stomaches), obviously with elephant's snouts (= huge kebab roll). Once again our driver Jokez ate as all under the table. We value the performance greatly.
As the day kept getting older we got ourselves properly oiled for the evening - Balls crew were making sure of that. Even the driver was drunk :P
Finally it was showtime. I didn't pay much of attention to anything besides beer and foot pedal, but I'm pretty sure that the gig went well. It was delighting to see enthusiastic headbanging among the stage and the crowd. Furthermore, I think one girl in the front row actually sang along. The rest of the evening was fantastic thanks to nice local people.
After few hours of (arguing and) sleep it was already noon. Typically, we took off in a hurry. I'd have wanted to suffer my hangover somewhere else than our tiny refrigerator. We spent the return trip trying to keep ourselves warm and hoping to hear the new Amoral song from the radio. Luckily, it was never played. It's completely shit.

The title says it all, atleast in my situation. Our timetable said, that I should record my keyboard stuff today beginning at 9am. Being everything else than an early bird I was a little sceptical, but showed up to the studio exactly at 9am. I just have to add that I was here first before Mika arrived, and I'm the one usually always late. Hooray. Well, we recorded the synth parts and I don't know if it's all the rehearsing or did the planets line just correctly, but we got all the parts recorded pretty easily. Synths gave pretty much stuff around the skeleton consisting of guitars, drums and basses.
We just put the mics for singing ready and are currently editing the recorded material ready for the vocal parts. I think we can call it a day after all the vocals are recorded.

Finnish metal band Backstabbing Bastard sounds suprisingly tight despite the young age of the group. The band's thrash-based music is a mixture of brutal and sensitive elements creating an authentic style. The alternation of growling and melodic singing works smoothly bringing appropriate contrasts to the overall picture.
